Bits and Pieces

Just a quick note to remind the three of you who read this blog that time is about to run out for application and participation int he City of Stillwater "safe room" grant program.  After the last few spring storm seasons getting a safe room for about 25% of the normal cost is a great deal.  Don;t let the term safe room fool you...the grant covers reinforced interior safe room construction as well as in ground shelters.  You need to complete an application and submit it to Valerie Silvers, Grants Coordinator at the City of Stillwater.  You can download the application and view the requirements online at www.stillwater.org   Application deadline is August 31 so don't delay.

Interest rates continue to stay at record low levels.  At least there was one good thing that came out of the debt ceiling deal.  15 year conventional loans for qualified buyers, are at 3.875% with no additional origination fees of discount points.  30 year fixed at 4.50% with .25 origination fee and no points.  Money is available for housing loans, folks.  If you are thinking of buying or selling, it is not a bad time to step into the market.

As always, if I can help you with your real estate needs, please let me know.

Real Estate is Still a Good Income Investment

With the global economy in turmoil, stock markets on a downhill run, savings accounts paying zip interest, money market accounts and CD's returning less than pennies on the dollar...trying to find some sort of traditional investment instrument that has a decent return is almost impossible.

Real estate continues to offer decent returns if the right deal can be put together.  For the savvy investor, real estate investments can offer income, asset growth and potential tax advantages.

Don't get me wrong.  Real estate is not immune to the swings of the economic pendulum.  Prices fluctuate, markets change...but over time real estate tends to present a solid investment opportunity with the possibility of returns outperforming today's markets.

Traditionally returns of 10% were the benchmark investors strived for.  Again, markets and the economy have changed, but returns in the 5 to 7 % range are realistic with the right property and the right financial "deal".

Stillwater offers a number of opportunities for the savvy investor.  If you are considering expanding or diversifying your investment portfolio, real esate should be on your short list.  If I can help you find that perfect piece of investment property, give me a call.
